To all the future girl bosses

To all the future girl bosses

Hello everyone,

I hope you all have had a lovely week. I am not sure how long this post is going to be because I’m in a funny mood tbh. However, I have the most fabulous jacket that I wanted to share with you and it’s new in stock so you can definitely get your hands on it.

Anyhoo, little tangent over … It’s my birthday soon and it has got me evaluating my life so far and analysing where exactly I want to go in life. I’ve always known that I wanted to be successful but now I’ve realised that I also want to be happy. Some people don’t think those two things are synonymous but I’ve never really put much stock in other people’s beliefs, to be frank with you.

I feel like, right now, I know the sort of career path that I want to go down and I just have to pour my heart, body and soul into it in order to succeed. For a long time, I must confess that I was drowning in a pool of confusion.
You know when you have all these skills and things you enjoy doing but you’re not entirely sure you can make a living from doing it. There’s also the flipside where you think you can make a living from your skills but all you keep encountering is closed doors. It is entirely possible that I existed in la la land for a while and did not understand just how tough the outside world was (especially when protected by the bubble of university). I figured that I was fairly clever and good at certain things, therefore, companies would just love to have me. Right? ….. errr, wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth.

As I sit here writing this blog post, I have decided that I’m the only person who can make my dreams come true. I cannot rely on companies to see how amazing I am … or even on other people to help me create the vision I have. I have to go out and grab the bull by the horns and tackle it (lol, very unlikely that I’d ever actually do that in real life but you get what I mean). This year is all about celebrating the woman and all the incredible women, past, present and future. I will definitely be doing a lot of that this year so keep your eyes peeled. Anyway, in keeping with the theme of celebrating women, a phrase that has gained momentum this year is definitely ‘Girl Boss’. I’m aware that some women don’t like this phrase but I personally embrace it and know that having that phrase ascribed to me is definitely one of my goals. I know that it is not going to be all fairy lights and cupcakes but I think that awareness is actually what leaves you better equipped to conquer trials because you can’t be that surprised when they appear. I really want to encourage all the future ‘Girl Bosses’ reading this to not give up and just strive harder to create the life you want for yourself. In the words of the Take me Out dating show host, “The Power is now in Your Hands”. Find whatever it is that motivates you and hold on to it.

For me, one of the things that really motivates me is clothing and fashion (it might sound crazy to some of you) but when I am well dressed, I feel like I can conquer the world. Good clothes are like my armour for the battle that is life. This is why once I spotted this jacket here I immediately fell in love. It made me feel powerful and it looks incredible and paired with the right outfit, it can be sexy too. As you can see, it is in this dogtooth design, which even though it’s not check, is also really on trend for this season. I really enjoyed wearing it and taking pictures and I look forward to wearing it some more this spring and just looking like a powerful woman. Clothes don’t have to be your armour of choice but choose something, Its always good to have something to fortify yourself with when chasing your dreams. I don’t know about you but I am really excited for what women have to offer the world now more than ever before and I think we should all uplift each other.

In the words of Gloria Steinem, we should stop fighting for a piece of the pie and just ‘bake a new pie’ so that there’s enough to go around. I truly believe that collaborative women will always go further than women who tear each other down and we need to realise that a real ‘Girl Boss’ will be willing to lift other women up. Anyway, that’s all that I have to say for today. I hope that if you’re a future Girl Boss reading this, you feel inspired to tackle a new week. Always remember that although you might be striving for excellence for yourself, we are all in this together and the fact that it’s even possible for girls and young women to become ‘bosses’ today was paved by the women who came before us. Therefore, that is something we should all have at the back of our mind on this journey.

Thank you for reading and let me know if you have any encouraging tips to help on this journey to becoming a Girl Boss.

Until next time,
Ciao x

I loves this post! That jacket is something I’ve been looking for. I also recently started working for a company that I would like to grow with and agree that dressing for success is essential. What are your thoughts on power suits?

Thank you so much. I definitely think depending on the environment you work in, power suits show people that you’re ambitious. If the environment is a bit more informal, maybe a blazer and trousers with a more relaxed blouse or a nice skirt and shirt combo would be the way to still look serious but not too formal. However, I believe in being comfortable and not dimming your light for anyone. If you feel comfortable in powers suits, wear it and don’t worry about what anyone else is wearing at work. This will definitely make you stand out
