Hello everyone, I had the most amazing cinema experience recently and I thought it would be remiss of me not to share it with you. Before I talk about this film, I want you all to know that I am an absolute film lover. I am in love with films and the experience of going to the cinema. In that light, one of the best presents I have ever received in my life is an odeon limitless card which will come in very handy as I shall be seeing this particular film again. The way it works it that you pay from £17.99 a month and see as many films as you want, however many times you want, which I think is a fantastic bargain. Anyhoo, that is not the point (I did warn you before that I tend to ramble).
The film that I want to talk about today is the seriously under hyped (in my opinion), Girls trip .
It was a seriously funny film, I would definitely go as far as saying that it was top three films I have had the pleasure of seeing this year. It adeptly manoeuvres the intricacies of female friendships in a hilarious manner. This film was particular touching for me as I live far away from my university girlfriends and this is a movie about reconnecting with your best girlfriends from university. All the characters are relatable; we have the boss, the gossip, the clown and the caring/mummy character. They are all grown women who show the audience that this adulting thing is just trial and error .It also shows that when these errors happen (and they will), our friendships which we have hopefully nurtured will stand us in good stead.
Now, all this makes the film sound very deep right ? but imagine this lovely message wrapped up in heaps of comedy, drunkenness and outrageous explicit jokes. There is none of that ‘women are not funny’ rhetoric but it shows that we have top notch banter and witty conversation. It shows that it is our best friends who will make us let our hair down, give us those delicious tips *ahem*. You have to watch it to see what I mean; and go to war for us if needed. I have to give a huge shoutout to Tiffany Haddish, who I had never heard of before this film and I have to admit that she totally stole the show for me. Since watching the film, I have found out that she is an incredible comedian with an amazing life story. She had the whole cinema hall in stitches, I will confess that I laughed so hard, tears ran down my face and there was some choking on my ice cream. Now, whether that is down to her or my own inability to feed myself is something you will have to find out for yourself.*wink*
I don’t want to go too in-depth into the characters so as not to spoil it for anyone but lets just say that when Jada Pinkett Smith’s ‘love interest’ showed up on the screen, there was a collective intake of breath in the room. It goes to show that women should not be defined by numbers and can be every bit as fabulous at any age.
This movie made me miss my girls so much, so I think that those of you you who are lucky enough to have your squad nearby should go see it together. It will definitely make you appreciate each other and probably remind you of some crazy memories you have with them. If you have seen it, leave me your thoughts down in the comments below and even if you haven’t, leave me a comment when you do. Until next time, have a lovely week. Ciao x
